Charles Edward Sayre


Amesbury, MA — Charles Edward Sayre, 57, of Amesbury, died unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, October 14, 2013, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Born in Oregon City, Ore., on August 5, 1956, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Alvena Sayre. After graduating from Oregon City High School, he went on to graduate from the University of Oregon.

A proud veteran, Charles served with the U.S. Army from September 23, 1975, until his honorable discharge on August 2, 1977.

Mr. Sayre worked in the financial services division of the Internal Revenue Service office in Andover for many years.

His greatest passion in life was being a loving and dedicated father to his five children, with whom he shared his love of hiking and beauty of nature, along with his passion for cooking. His signature dishes were lasagna, meatloaf, banana bread, and strawberry cake. He was truly an exceptional cook.

He is survived by his four sons, Alexander, William, Gabriel, and Jackson Sayre, all of Amesbury; and his daughter, Sonia Sayre of Amesbury;his former wife, Rosalin (Acosta) Sayre; his two brothers, Michael Sayre and wife, Carol, of Portland, Ore., and Daniel Sayre; his sister, Lucy; and several nieces and nephews.

The tragedy of his sudden loss has left them all totally devastated and brokenhearted, yet their love for him and his generosity of spirit will never leave them.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held in the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, on Friday, from 6 to 8 Pp.m. Funeral services at the funeral home will be on Saturday, at 11a.m. Interment will be private for the family.
