Amesbury, MA — Stephen R. Cowden passed away at his home Friday, October 11, 2013, after a brief illness, at the age of 66. He was born in Santa Cruz, California on September 16, 1947. He was a graduate of the University of Oregon where he met his wife, Marne. Steve was a language major in college but shortly after graduating, realized he had a gift working with wood and spent his life working as a cabinetmaker. He also created many beautiful pieces of furniture, toys, and most recently guitars which his family will cherish forever. As a resident of Amesbury, Massachusetts for the past 35 years, he is survived by his wife, Marne D. Cowden; his eldest son, Austin R. Cowden and wife, Christine Courtney Cowden, of Kingston, NH; his son, Patrick M. Cowden of Nashville, Tennessee; his two grandchildren, Abigail and Dylan; his sister, Jean Cuthbertson, and her husband, Ted, of Irving, Texas; his sister-in-law, Rebecca Cowden of Salt Lake City, Utah, many nephews and a niece. Steve enjoyed traveling throughout the southern states visiting many Civil War Battle sites in which he had a strong interest. He was an avid reader and music enthusiast. His quiet demeanor, his sense of humor, and his devotion to his family will be missed.
