William L. Richardson

Amesbury, MA — William L. Richardson, age 89, longtime Amesbury resident, died peacefully at his home in Amesbury, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Natalie E. (Emerson) Richardson of Amesbury.

Born in Haverhill, February 2, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph O. and Helen (Lane) Richardson and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1943, went on to attend the Arkansas State University and graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1948.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army from March 2, 1943 until his honorable discharge on March 31, 1945, and was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the local chapters of the American Legion, the VFW and the DAV.

Bill also was a member of Main Street Congregational Church, Merrimack Lodge F. & A.M. of Haverhill, the Valley of Merrimack, Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington, and a former member of the Amesbury Rotary Club.

He pursued a lifetime career in the insurance industry, working for Cigna Insurance until his retirement in 1983 as a Marketing Manager.

Living on the Merrimack River in Amesbury, Bill and his wife were avid boaters in their younger years. They owned a 32 foot Chris Craft and loved navigating the New England coastline with their family and friends. In his retirement, he and his wife, Natalie, enjoyed many years traveling throughout the country as well as abroad.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by two sons, E. Stephen Richardson of Summerfield, FL and Thomas L. Richardson, DMD, of Portland, ME; a daughter, Cynthia R. Conant and husband, Chester, of Amesbury; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Amanda and Kristopher Richardson, Marilyn, Emily and Chester Conant and Danna Acevedo Diaz, along with several generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Barbara Grissett, Elizabeth Richardson and Patricia Kelly.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury. Funeral services and interment will be private for the family. Donations in his memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.

    Bartow, FL — "You can't have L O V E without L E O" Leo J.Gagnon “Pepe," 79, of Bartow, Fla., passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, with his loving wife, Sandy by his side. Leo was born on June 13, 1934 in Newburyport, Mass. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving proudly on the USS Forrestal during the Korean War, forgoing graduation, at 17-years-old. Following the tradition of his uncles, he took on employment at Towle Silversmiths in Newburyport. Mr. Gagnon retired from the Newburyport Department of Public Works. He and his wife took great enjoyment as Owner/Operators of the former Port Bowling Lanes on Storey Avenue, getting to know and having positive influence on many of the local youth. Most will remember him for his sense of humor, warm welcoming smile, and the twinkle in his eyes. Leo was a member the American Legion Post #150 in Newburyport and Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Bartow, Fla. In his retirement, he was an avid bowler, a regular participant in Relay for Life in Bartow and took great pride routing for his New England sports teams, particularly the Red Sox and Patriots.

Happy and content, he enjoyed a rich social life and treasured his relationships with a wide circle of loving friends and co-workers. Steve was a devoted father and an enthusiastic grandfather. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1970s as a ski instructor in Garmisch, Germany, and was an avid skier throughout his life, spending many winter weekends in recent years collecting ski-racing medals at the Ski Wheelers Ski Club in North Conway, N.H.

Irma owned and operated Chouinard Beauty Salon in Newburyport for 30 years and was a past president of the Newburyport Hairdresser Association. During her spare time, Irma was involved in many clubs and organizations. She was an avid reader, a New England sports fan, and a member of Red Sox Nation.
