Newburyport, MA — Margaret Grace (Gormley) Michaud, a Newburyport resident, died Friday, December 20, 2013, at the Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Michaud with whom she spent many wonderful years in Florida, until his death in May of 2008. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Charles Baker, and her sister, Dorothy Burns.
Born in Lowell, September 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ida (Smith) Gormley, both of whom were born and raised in the Newburyport area.
Margaret, who was an accomplished seamstress, worked many years in the clothing industry, as well as sewing for her herself and her family. She was an avid horseshoe player and bowler most of her life, bowling right up until the age of 85. Since relocating back to Newburyport, Margaret had joined the Golden Age Club and also enjoyed playing tiles and bingo with friends. She also continued her lifelong love of baking for her friends and family.
She is survived by her two sisters, Alice Martino of Haverhill and Beulah Hardy of Byfield; her niece, Joan M. Merrill, whom she raised and considered to be her daughter, and her husband, Allen F. Goucher of Amesbury; her grandson, William Shockley, Jr. and wife, Dawn; two great-grandchildren, Mateus and Liam; along with many more family members, including nieces, nephews and of course, dear friends.
Margaret will be remembered by her family and friends for her great bursts of laughter and zest for life and she will be greatly missed.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. with funeral services at the funeral home on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. Interment in Beechbrook Cemetery, Gloucester, will be private for the family.
