Betty Learned Gosselin

Exeter, NH — Betty L. Learned Gosselin, 87, recently of Exeter, N.H., and formerly of Kingston, N.H., Amesbury and Salisbury, died Saturday afternoon at Genesis Healthcare Exeter Center, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. She was the beloved wife of the late Mr. Shirl W. Learned, and the late Raymond E. Gosselin.

Born in Hamilton, Mass., September 30, 1925, she was the elder of four children of the late Leroy C. and Sarah (Southwick) Thayer. She attended Hamilton High School. Betty was a lifelong caregiver, devoted to the needs of others, from her family to her friends to the many people she cared for as a private professional caregiver. Her tender caring ways and her genuine concern for others was a part of her life that gave her great joy. In her own words, if there was anything she wanted to let people know, it was “Thank you!”

A longtime member of the East Parish United Methodist Church of Salisbury, she was also a member of the Golden Rule. An avid card player, she played cards every week with her friends, loved playing Bingo, enjoyed traveling, and collecting spoons from friends and family who traveled around the world. She also loved cooking and baking, especially apple pies, and as an expert knitter made numerous blankets for family and friends.

Her survivors include her children, Timothy Learned and wife, Tawny, of Salisbury; Jody Perley and husband, Douglas, of Kennebunk, Maine; and Thomas Learned and wife, Corie, of Poland, Maine; seven grandchildren, whom she totally adored, Tiffany Learned, Timothy Learned Jr., Bradford Perley, Sawyer Learned, Rebecca Learned, Samuel Learned, and Jaxon Learned; her sister, June Whitcomb of Kingston, N.H., brother-in-law, Charles DeGrandpre of Freeport, Maine; along with many nieces and nephews; dear, dear friends; and extended family from near and far. She will truly be missed by them all. She was predeceased by her sister, Claire DeGrandpre, and her brother, L. Charles Thayer.
