Byfield — William J. Dunn, 82, of Byfield, and late of Malden, Mass., died on May 9, 2014, with his family by his side. He was born in Melrose, Mass., on August 6, 1931, to John and Laura (Lund) Dunn.
Bill was a well-known service station owner on Storey Avenue, Newburyport, Mass., from 1971 to 2000. He was an avid sport enthusiast, especially the sports in which his children were participants. He followed football, baseball, ice hockey, field hockey, and softball. Early in his children’s lives, he was a coach as well. Bill was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in Alaska both as a army intelligence officer and military police. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Sue; his five children, Wayne of Merrimack, Laura of Amesbury, Keith and Alfred of Byfield, and Deanna of Newmarket, N.H. He also leaves six grandchildren, Michaela, Zach, Zoe, RJ, Meghan, and Dorian.
The backyard pool was a big attraction for the summer. Add Bill’s tremendous interest in the flowers that he planted every year on the deck and around the pool, one saw a very happy man. His family was very important to him and they will miss him greatly.
