Salisbury — Thomas L. Demelis, 54, of Salisbury, Mass., died suddenly on May 20, 2014, at Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport, Mass. He was born in Beverly, Mass., on May 12, 1960, to the late Gabriel DeMelis and Greta “Scotty” (Garland) Hayes.
Tom was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union #537. He served with the United States Marine Corps. He loved animals, the beach, traveling, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He had a strong brotherhood and sisterhood bond with his friends. Tom was very family oriented and a kind, gentle man. He is survived by his lifelong partner, Marie Burchell of Salisbury; sister, Heather McKinley of Raymond, N.H.; stepmother Margaret DeMelis of Danvers, Mass.; brother, Michael DeMelis of Virginia; Aunt Mary and Uncle Sestino DiSerio and cousins of Toronto, Canada; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from Scotland.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, May 29, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Conte, Twomey and LeBlanc Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, Mass. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 30, at 10 a.m., at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 16 Beach Road, Salisbury. Burial will follow in Longhill Cemetery in Salisbury.
