Thelma "Kate" Harris Pike

Littleton, NH — Thelma “Kate” Harris Pike, 94, of Littleton, N.H., former longtime Newburyport area resident, passed away late Sunday evening at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife for 46 years of the late Harry E. Pike. Jr.

Born in Newburyport on December 28, 1919, she was one of seven children of the late Sidney W. and Mary E. (Dwyer) Harris. She was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1937.

Thelma worked at Towle Silversmiths during World War II as a quality inspector and was also an Air Raid Warden during the war.

She was a member of Central Congregational Church in Newburyport, was an avid bowler, ardent Red Sox fan, enjoyed walks and bird watching on Plum Island, and was a wonderful knitter, contributing many years of her crafts to her family and charity. Thelma also loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with her husband, family and friends.

An active member in her community, she was a Brownie and Cub Scout Leader for her children; opened the Livery Stable in Amesbury, Mass., where she and her husband conducted adult and youth square dancing classes, and having always wanted to be a nurse, volunteered at Amesbury Hospital as a Red Cross Aid.

Her survivors include two daughters, Deborah Pike Cashman and husband, John, of Dalton, N.H., and Lisa Pike Hayes and husband, Walter, of Merrimac, Mass.; a son, Harry E. Pike III and his wife, Heather, of Pittsfield, N.H.; three granddaughters, Rachel Doane Demers of Brunswick, Maine; Sarah Doane Hamilton of Biddeford, Maine, and Erin Cashman Downes of Chester, N.H.; six grandsons, Roger A. Doane Jr. of Saco, Maine, Jason T. Hayes of Merrimac, Mass., Ian T. Pike of San Diego, Calif., Cody D. Pike of Nevada City, Calif., and Derek G. Pike and Adrian J. Pike of Pittsfield, N.H.; along with 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Pike Doane; and six brothers, Sidney, Leslie, Carroll, Ralph, Joseph, and Paul Harris.

ARRANGEMENTS: A period of visitation will be held Sunday, from 12 to 1:45 p.m., at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, immediately followed by services at the funeral home, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Newburyport.
