Byfield, MA — Richard L. "Rich" Marks, age 65, a 22-year resident of Byfield, died Tuesday morning, June 3, 2014, of a heart attack while on his boat on the Parker River in Newbury. He was the beloved husband for 30 years to Lynn Silverstein Marks.
Born in The Bronx, N.Y., Dec. 29, 1948, he was the son of the late Ralph and Ethelyn (Carbone) Marks and owned his own medical sales business.
Rich was an active member of the community and was engaged in numerous civic and political organizations. He was also an ardent supporter of environmental, marine and fisheries organizations. Rich was an avid fisherman and gardener, but most of all, a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
In addition to his wife, Lynn Silverstein Marks, he leaves behind a son, Gabriel of Byfield; a daughter, Hannah Korn-Wyatt and husband, Gideon of Pawtucket, R.I.; two sisters, Arlene Marks of Hamden, N.Y. and Carole Marks of Jacksonville, Fla.; along with several dear friends, all of whom are truly saddened by his untimely passing. He will always be remembered for his dedication to family and his genuine commitment to the preservation of our natural environment.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the Congregation Ahavas Achim, corner of Washington Street and Olive Street, Newburyport. Interment will be private for the family. Following the services, visitors are welcomed at the family residence.
