Newburyport — Robert L. Bowlen, 82, born in Newburyport September 25, 1930, died October 24, 2012, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. Robert was the son of the late Lester and Mildred (Field) Bowlen. A native of Newburyport, Robert moved to Salisbury in 1959.
He was an engineer technician who worked for many local area companies before his retirement from Microwave Research Company in North Andover,.
During the 1950', Robert’s passion was driving stock car #100 at Pines Speedway. He held a ham radio operator’s license and enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. His love of music allowed him the talent to play a variety of musical instruments. Robert’s compassion for animals gave opportunity to adopt many throughout his lifetime.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Jean (Morrill) Bowlen of Ipswich; children Bette J. Pacheco of Hampton and Florida, Nancy Bowlen of Salisbury, Robert L. Bowlen Jr. of Salisbury, Jennifer Figueredo of Salisbury, and Gary Bowlen of Salisbury; grandchildren Kathryn Dow, Fred and Robert Scheer; Brandon, Tyler, Bianca, and Chanel Figueredo and Gary Bowlen; great-grandchildren Ariana Sterns and Lillian and Kai Scheer; and sister Donna Adams. Robert was predeceased by his brothers Kennard and Richard Bowlen.
ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of Robert's life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 28, at East Parish United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Burial will be private at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Twomey LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport.
In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Robert's name to the MSPCA 400 Broadway Methuen, MA 01844.
