Newburyport, MA — Lillian Frances (Kilgour) Murphy, 90, longtime Newburyport resident, died on Thursday morning, January 16, 2014, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Newbury on March 19, 1923, she was one of three children of the late Francis B. and Nellie M. (Dow) Kilgour. She was a 1941 graduate of Essex Agricultural School. Lillian worked at CBS Hytron in Newburyport for some years, and retired from Electronic Products Inc.
She loved rides to the coast of Maine and the mountains of New Hampshire, and especially liked the lighthouse at Cape Neddick, Maine. Lillian enjoyed spending her retirement taking care of her family and spending time with her beloved dog, Toby, and cat, Autumn.
Lillian was predeceased by her beloved husband, James C. Murphy, in 1972; a brother, Rupert Kilgour; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Kilgour. She leaves behind her daughter, Sharon A. Peel and husband, Lawrence, of Newburyport; her brother, Francis B. Kilgour of Rowley; sister-in-law, Marion Kilgour of Ipswich; along with several cousins and dear friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport, will be on Tuesday, January 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Newburyport will be held in spring 2014.To honor her longtime commitment to rescue “Goldens,” donations in her memory may be made to Golden Huggs Rescue, Inc., c/o Brigitte Ritchie, 204 Spring Hill Rd., Waitsville, VT 05676.
