Jonesboro, GA — William H. Safford III, of Jonesboro, GA, died suddenly on Friday, January 17, of natural causes at 86 years of age. He was the son of the late William and Bessie Davis Safford.
He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita Safford; son, Keith Safford; his wife, Connie and granddaughter, Christina of Stewartstown, PA and family and extended family in Georgia.
William was born in Newburyport on January 11, 1928, attended Governor Dummer Academy, Bentley College of Accounting and Finance where he received an Associate's Degree in Accounting. His various positions in life were at Towle Silversmiths in Newburyport; Western Electric in Andover; Wallworth Valve Co., in Greenberg, PA; and finally Lawrence Technologies in Lawrence, KS where he retired from in 1993.
After retirement he relocated from Lawrence, KS to Jonesboro, GA with his wife, Edith Safford, who passed away on June 26, 1997, after a long battle with cancer.
He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, loved to play golf with other seniors who were retired and enjoyed working in the yard. He was a music lover, especially the music of Josh Groban, The Tennors, and watched American Idol every week.
He was an avid supporter of his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities, i.e., Girl Scouts, Soccer, Lacrosse, etc. He loved the holidays; Christmas, Easter, etc., when the entire family got together and he enjoyed the turmoil of the little ones running around and loved being called "Grandpa Bill." He was blessed with a great voice and sang at Christian Science Church.
ARRANGEMENTS: The private calling hours took place at Elliott, Woodworth and Rogers Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 21.
A springtime burial will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetary in Newburyport.
