Margaret A. Hanlon, 88

Rowley — Margaret M. (Digan) Hanlon 88, of Rowley, died Friday at Beverly Hospital.

Margaret was born in Boston on February 15,1925, to the late Maurice and Loretta (Brown) Digan.

Margaret was a loving mother to her six children, and was involved in the Georgetown Band Parents Association for many years. She was an ardent supporter of Masachusetts Citizens for Life, among other charitible causes. She loved to play cards with her friends and family while enjoying a cup of very hot tea.

After raising her children to school age, she went to work for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover for over 20 years. Prior to her retirement, she was the recipient of the Treasury Award, an award given in Washington for the outstanding work of an employee of the United States Treasury Department.

Margaret was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Georgetown, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of St. Mary’s Sodality and St. Mary’s Women’s Club. She was also a member and secretary of the Georgetown Women's Club.

She was the widow of the late Albert A. Hanlon of Georgetown, who died in 1983. Margaret is survived by her six children; Meg Keenan and her husband, Bernie, of Haverhill, Mass., Marie Collins and her husband, Michael, of Georgetown, Mass., Richard Hanlon of Derry, N.H., Laurie Taker of Haverhill, Bert Hanlon and his wife, Tricia, of Rowley, Mass., and Tom Hanlon of Manchester, N.H. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law and very dear friend, Claire Mace of Danville, N.H.; and several neices and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her daughter, Loretta Hanlon.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., at St.Mary’s Church in Georgetown. A private burial will take in St.Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Merton E. Roberts Jr. and Conte Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown.
