Albert W. Stromquist, 95

AMESBURY — Albert William Stromquist, age 95, longtime Amesbury resident, died Saturday evening, January 21, 2012 at the Amesbury Village, with his loving family by his side. His beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothea I. (Rouse) Stromquist, died March 31, 2009.

Born in Lowell, October 21, 1916, he was the son of the late Herbert E. and Olga O. (Olson) Stromquist and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in New York City, Class of 1934. During World War II, Mr. Stromquist served with the United States Navy from April 10, 1945 until his honorable discharge on April 6, 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class. He worked in customer service and as a sales representative for Massachusetts Electric until his retirement in 1978.

Al was a longtime, active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Amesbury, where he was a past Warden of the Vestry as well as a choir member. He was very active with the Masons, having been a 60-plus-year member and two-time Past Master, 1964 and 1995, of Warren Lodge of Amesbury; Past High Priest of Trinity Chapter, RAM; Illustrious Past Master of Amesbury Council, R.& S.M. and Past Patron of Friendship Chapter, O.E.S. No. 58 of Amesbury. With his great baritone voice, Al was a member of the Haverhill Chapter of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (Barbershop Singing Society) as well as the Over 64 Barbershop Quartet. Al and the rest of the barbershop members have delighted many area organizations with their tremendous musical talent.

He is survived by a son, Albert Jr., residing in Abu Dhabi, a daughter, Patricia and special family friend, Robert Buthmann of Salisbury, four grandchildren, Brian and Emily Stromquist, Janna Silvia and husband Robert of Amesbury, Michael Vedrani and wife, Susan of Portsmouth NH and three great granddaughters, Sarah Vedrani and Molly and Kate Silvia; a brother, Robert W. Stromquist of California and many special nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers, Wilfred T. Stromquist and Herbert E, Stromquist Jr.

ARRANGEMENTS: An hour of visitation will be held Friday, January 27, 2012 from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, immediately followed by funeral services at the funeral home at 11 A.M. wbeginning with Masonic Services conducted by Warren Lodge and then the services with Rev. Michael Shirley officiating. Interment will follow in Bartlett Cemetery, Amesbury.

    Henry Joseph Quinn, age 88, lifelong dairy farmer, died Wednesday morning, May 16, 2012, at the Amesbury Village Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.

    Born in Amesbury, December 16, 1923, he was one of four children of the late Patrick and Hannah Quinn, and upon graduating from the eighth grade at St. Joseph School in Amesbury, he immediately went to work on the family farm on Whitehall Road in Amesbury. He dedicated his entire life to his farm, never regretting the long days or the hard work. His choice to be bound to the land that he loved and cherished, sharing its bounty with family and friends, always filled his heart with much pride and gave him great satisfaction.

She was raised and educated in Salem, MA, and received nurses training at the Holy Ghost Hospital in Cambridge. Her husband, Alexander V. Barowy predeceased her.

    Born in Amesbury, August 9, 1951, he was the loving son of Cecile A. (Proulx) Ouellet and the late Adrien “Shorty” Ouellet, who died May 21, 2011. A graduate of Amesbury High School, he was a star player for the Amesbury High School football team, receiving two four-year football scholarships, one to Marshall University in West Virginia, the other to Idaho State University. After receiving the news about the plane crash of November 17, 1970, which carried the entire football team from Marshall University, Norman decided on Idaho State College.

He was a member of the Dalton Club, had served three terms as a member of the Harbor Commission, was a volunteer at the Parker River National Refuge, and had been vice-chairman of the Committee for an Open Waterfront (COW).

She was devoted to her family and is survived by her daughter, Lisa A. Sutton of Amesbury, MA, and her son, John T. Sutton and his partner Martin Mendoza of Pflugerville, TX. She is lovingly known as “Bee” by her three grandchildren, Daniel, Charles and Alexandra St. Pierre of Amesbury, MA, who adored their grandmother. Catherine is also survived by one sister, Joan Gerules and her husband Ernest Gerules of Marlton, NJ; her sister-in-law, Jane P. Sutton and her partner MaryAnn Lautt of Bristol, PA; her niece, Pamela Smith and family of Haddon Heights, NJ, and nephew Timothy Gerules and his family of Germany.

He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1956 after having participated in ROTC, and he was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged as a captain. He worked 30 years as a senior electrical engineer at Western Electric (now Lucent Technologies) in North Andover, MA.
