Elaine H. Murphy, 90

Elaine H. Murphy, 90, died Sunday March 11, 2012 at Merrimac Valley Hospice House in Haverhill MA. Daughter of the late James A. and Alice M. (Brazier) Holbrook, she was born November 4, 1921 in Newburyport. A lifelong resident of Newburyport Elaine was a graduate of Newburyport High School Class of 1938. She was employed by Flexaust Company in Amesbury as a Quality Control Inspector until her retirement in 1984.

During her retirement years Elaine was a Volunteer at Anna Jaques Hospital proudly completing 5,000 hours of service; she also enjoyed her weekly Tuesday card group with fellow volunteers the “Card Ladies”; she was also an Officer of the Horton Terrace Tenants Association, and an avid quilter.

Elaine is survived by her children, Dennis P. Murphy and his wife Virginia of Merrimac, Joseph V. Murphy and his wife Eleanor of Salisbury, Michael F. Murphy of Newburyport, Donald P. Murphy of Newburyport, and Sharon A. Holmes and her life partner Ronald Rogers of Byfield, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well as brother-in-law James Herward. She was predeceased by her siblings James Holbrook, Natalie Marshall and Bernice Nemecek, also her ex-husband Joseph Murphy Sr.

Memorial contributions may be made in Elaine’s memory to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 17th, at 1:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport. Burial will be private at a later date. She was also the dear sister of the late Lois Tilton and is survived by six grandchildren. Doris was a longtime realtor serving Amesbury, Salisbury and Newburyport.
