Amesbury — Steve Newton of Amesbury, Mass., died suddenly, and at 60, far too soon, on Thursday, April 10, 2014. A graduate engineer and a self-described migrant computer worker, Steve lived in over a dozen states during his career, settling finally these past seven years in the Newburyport area. Happy and content, he enjoyed a rich social life and treasured his relationships with a wide circle of loving friends and co-workers. Steve was a devoted father and an enthusiastic grandfather. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1970s as a ski instructor in Garmisch, Germany, and was an avid skier throughout his life, spending many winter weekends in recent years collecting ski-racing medals at the Ski Wheelers Ski Club in North Conway, N.H.
Steve was born on September 14, 1953, in Stafford Springs, Conn., to the late Everett E. and Arline (Trainor) Newton. He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Jamie Beehn, and their three children, Jeremiah, Julie and Jordan of Boise, Idaho; and his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Jessica Newton, and their children Kaylynn, Hunter and Cameron of Merced, Calif.; his brother, Everett Newton and his wife, Judy, of Largo, Fla.; and sisters, Kathleen Knapp and her husband, Robert, of Southington, Conn., and Donna Honan and her husband, Terry, of Limington, Maine. He also leaves behind five nieces and nephews; including his special skiing buddy, Amy Reinholdtsen.
ARRANGEMENTS: The funeral will be private. Friends are invited to help celebrate Steve’s life at a memorial gathering to be held at his favorite restaurant, music venue and general hangout, Grog, 13 Middle Street, Newburyport, on Tuesday, April 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Ski Wheelers Ski Club, c/o Marci Madsen, P.O.
