Amesbury MA — Wayne C. Mitchell, 54, of Amesbury, died on Friday at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport, after a gallant battle with cancer.
Wayne was born in Holyoke, Mass., on February 17,1960.
Wayne was a Master Finish Carpenter with an eye for intricate details. He had a larger than life personality and a big heart to go with it. Wayne had a gift of whimsical comedic improvisation and was always rooting for the underdog, and eager to lend a helping hand. He was a successful, lifelong body builder, and loved walks in the woods and riding his Harley. Wayne thought the world of his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all those that loved him. Rest in Peace Poppi.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Lisa C. Leslie of Amesbury Mass.; his children, Amy Mitchell of Easthampton, Mass., Ryan Mitchell of Easthampton, Mass., Wayne Mitchell Jr. and his wife, Sarah, of South Hadley, Mass., and Michael J. and Anthony M. Pelkey, both of Amesbury. He is also survived by his parents, Shirley and John Harstad of Belchertown, Mass.; brothers, George Mitchell and Theresa Leab of Belchertown, Mass., David Allen and his wife, Nancy, of Belchertown, and Raymond Mitchell of Hatiesburg, Miss.; sisters, Debbie Banas and her husband, Jim, of Easthampton, Mass., Sandra Coty of Easthampton, and Sharon Allen of Seattle, Wash.; and his grandchildren, Skylar, Ahnna and Ronnie. Also among Wayne's survivors are his mother-in-law, Diane T.Leslie of Amesbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, George Mitchell.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Twomey LeBlanc And Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport. A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, at 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, Newburyport, Mass. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
