Amesbury — Anita J. Decie, 61, a resident of Amesbury, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, Mass., after a long and courageous battle with cancer. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on Feb. 7, 1953 in Newburyport, to the late William and Josephine (Kukene) Decie. She attended Salisbury Grammar School and was a graduate of Newburyport High School.
Anita was employed by the Department of Defense (DOD) at Hanscom Air Force Base in 1974, working as a Secretary for major Program Offices. Her education and training put her into a Management Position supporting multiple programs within the government. She worked for several of the government's highest rated programs within the DOD because of her expertise in data management. She then made a decision to transfer to the National Association of Government Employees Union (NAGE) at Hanscom Air Force Base, doing what she always wanted to do, just helping others. She became the Vice President of NAGE in 1994 and continued helping Government Employees for the remainder of her career when she retired on Jan. 1, 2011. She was highly recognized for her 36 years of dedicated Government Service by the entire Hanscom Air Force Base community.
Anita is survived by her siblings, William Decie and his wife Judy of Amesbury and Rosemary Decie of Newburyport; niece, Carri and nephews, Brian, Kevin, Keith and Ken, several grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as very good friend, Randy Alexander, and her beloved pets, Mai and Milo.
