Seabrook, and formerly of Georgetown — Camille T. (Marquis) Lacey, 95, of Seabrook, N.H., formerly of Georgetown, Mass., died on May 4, 2014, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, after a brief and unexpected illness. She passed away surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., on December 3, 1918, she was the daughter of Joseph H. and Delina (Lacasse) Marquis.
She was a graduate of Lowell State College, now the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, in 1940, and went to Boston University for her master's degree in education. She taught school in Monson and Middleton, and retired from the Georgetown School System after 30 years, and organized and was advisor to the Junior National Honor Society.
In her younger years, she was a well-known musician, as a member of the Lawrence Musicians Union, a cellist in the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra, The Haverhill Symphony, The Lawrence Alumni Symphony, and Joseph Pulvino's Orchestra. Her greatest delight was having played under the baton of Arthur Fiedler, and performing in the Hatch Shell in Boston.
She served on the board of directors for several years at the Lawrence Y.M.C.A. She was a member and past president of St. Mary's Women's Club in Georgetown, The Georgetown Women's Club and Seabrook Women's Club. She was also a member of the Friends and Stitches, her much-loved quilt club in Seabrook.
She was the widow of A. Donald Lacey, who died in 2006, after 64 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Drake and husband, Robert; her son, Rick Lacey; a granddaughter, Melissa Drake; her grandson, Jason Drake and wife, Halley; four great-grandchildren, Penelope, Toby and Adelaide Drake, and Georgia Campbell. She is also survived by some cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Conte Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Georgetown, with a burial to follow in Harmony Cemetery.
