Naples, Florida — Paul Alfred Mooers was called home on November 23, 2013, in Naples, Florida, shortly after he returned from celebrating his youngest granddaughter’s wedding with his entire family on November 16, 2013.
Paul was born September 6, 1928, in Haverhill, Massachusetts to Goulding Mooers and Yvonne Langevin. He graduated from Haverhill Trade School in 1947 and later attended Lowell Tech. Paul moved to Amesbury with his wife, Arlene, and his young family in 1953 and was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish. He was employed at the Bailey Company as a mechanical engineer until his retirement in 1995.
Paul married his wife, Shirley Hall, in 1992. They enjoyed wonderful retirement years and took many memorable trips abroad over the past 20 years. Paul and Shirley spent summers in Hampton, NH, to be close to his family, whom he dearly loved.
Paul was an avid photographer, golfer, fisherman and traveler. He was also a skilled carpenter and found great joy in building and remodeling homes for himself and his children.
Paul leaves behind his beloved wife, Shirley Mooers of Naples, Florida. He is also survived by Arlene Mooers, mother of his four children, Pamela Gosselin and her husband, Benoit, of Amesbury, Patricia Mooers of Amesbury, Paul Mooers Jr. and his wife, Marianne, of Greenland, NH, and Jon P. Mooers of Amesbury. He leaves eight grandchildren, David Gosselin, M.D. and his wife, Emily, Grant Gosselin and his wife, Martha, Rebecca Stone and her husband, Andrew, Elizabeth Hunnefeld, Melanie Bemdtson and her husband, Greg, Ryan Mooers, Alison Bell and her husband, Patrick, and Kyle Mooers. He leaves nine great-grandchildren, Jack, Lily, Matthew, Caroline, Emma and Molly Gosselin, Anna and Eliza Stone, and Benjamin Hunnefeld. He also leaves many nieces and cousins. Paul was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Marie Rachel Huntley; and his brother, Richard Mooers.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, on Monday, December 9, 2013, from 5 - 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish, 2 School Street, Amesbury. Please join the family in the parish hall following the service. The burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Haverhill, will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Neighbors Table of Amesbury or St. Vincent de Paul Society of the Holy Family Parish.
