Shirley A. (Kneeland) Dam

Merrimac — Shirley Ann Dam, age 79, resident of Merrimac, died unexpectedly of a stroke on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

She was born on December 9, 1933 in Haverhill, to Carl Arthur and Lucretia (Root) Kneeland and graduated from Merrimac High School, class of 1951. Shirley married Richard Dam at the Merrimac First Baptist Church on September 28, 1951. Graduating from Northern Essex Community College with and associate’s degree in business, she obtained a Real Estate License for Massachusetts and Maine. Most recently Shirley was employed at Waterhouse Realty.

Shirley enjoyed genealogy, writing memoirs, running road races, biking, lake living, touring lighthouses, yard sales and spending time with family. She was a collector of books, antiques and Native American memorabilia, and was a member of the Haverhill Alliance Church. She enjoyed being a part of the Mayflower Society, Old Newbury, and the Alden Society. Shirley loved summers with friends and family in Bridgton, Maine and also spending time during the winter in Cape Canaveral, Fla.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard Dam; her children, Chrystal Turner, Daniel Dam and Robin Bush; five grandchildren, William Turner, Rebekah Turner, Sarah Brownell, Jonathan Bush and Joshua Bush; four great-grandchildren, Naylee, Tatum, Analee and Brent with another one expected in February; her sister, Virginia Wilson of Port Charlotte, FL, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Carl Ward Kneeland.

Shirley loved the Lord Jesus Christ and believed that Bible teaches of God’s love, forgiveness and the promise of an incredible gift of eternal life to those who put their faith in Christ. A favorite bible verse…. “I have no greater joy than to know that my children walk in truth.” 3 John 1:4.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be Thursday, January 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday, January 11, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., immediately followed by the funeral service at 12 p.m., with officiating Pastors, Paul Veit and Jeffrey White. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.

A member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1941, she attended the Fasio Beauty School and was a beautician in the Haverhill area for over 40 years. Her most recent employment was with her dear friend, Mary Pauline Wyka at Andrea’s Beauty Salon in Plaistow.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lorenzo and Wilfred Gagne, and one sister, Therese Garneau.
