Merrimac, MA — Stuart Zibell, age 88, of Merrimac, passed away, with his loving family at his side, on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, after a lengthy battle from congestive heart failure.
Born on June 14, 1924 in Salem, MA, Stuart was the son of the late Leon and Celia (Titus) Zibell. Stuart attended public schools in Stoneham, MA, then served in the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC’s), where he helped to build roadways and bridges in New Hampshire prior to World War II, in which he took much pride.
During World War II he served with the United States Army Air Corps from October 24, 1942 until his honorable discharge on October 7, 1945 with the rank of Corporal. After World War II, he received an education at Vesper George Art School in Boston, MA, followed by a career as a kitchen design engineer and draftsman for major hotels.
His hobbies included watercolor painting, model railroads, reading, jigsaw puzzles and bird watching. He loved and cherished his family, always had a story to share, and loved to play games and cards whenever possible.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Irene (Keith) Zibell, his daughters, Marilyn Wintheiser and her husband Peter of Easthampton, MA; and Barbara Gould and her husband Ricky of Merrimac, MA; two sisters, Leona Amari, of FL; and Linda Zibell of Stoneham, MA. His grandchildren are Heather, William and Amelia Wintheiser , and Kelly and Allison Gould.
ARRANGEMENTS: At the request of the family, there are no services at the present time. A Memorial Service will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Stuart Zibell may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or the Merrimac Senior Center, 100 East Main Street, Merrimac, MA 01860.
