Helen X. Bulgaris, 96

Byfield — Helen X. Bulgaris, 96, wife of the late, Arthur M. Bulgaris, died Thursday morning, February 14, 2013, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a short illness. Born in East Boston on October 4, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Angelina (Tsitolas) Xindaris.

Mrs. Bulgaris had been a resident of Byfield for the past 71 years. She was a longtime member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich. For 58 years, Mrs. Bulgaris owned and operated the Longfellow Hill Beauty Salon in Byfield; she retired at the age of 89. Helen was known for always wearing a hat when she went out and always looked great in them. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, in 1974.

Mrs. Bulgaris is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kay Bulgaris of Byfield; her three grandchildren and their spouses, Ginger and Doug Kenyon of Kennebunk, Maine; George Bulgaris of Byfield, and Carol Lynne and Eric Barto of Springfield, Va.; and her two great-grandchildren, Connor Barto and Elizabeth Barto, both of Springfield, Va. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Pashby of West Peabody, and by one niece and several nephews. Mrs. Bulgaris was also predeceased by her four brothers, Charles, Christopher, James and Pericles Xindaris, all formerly of Peabody.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 19, at 10 a.m. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow in the New Highland Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Monday, February 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Bulgaris’ name to the Greek Orthodox Church of Ipswich, P.O. Box 6, Ipswich, MA 01938.
