Newburyport — Philip Murdock Sewell, 71, of Newburyport, passed away July 30, 2013, after a long illness of COPD at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was born in Franklin, Mass., on May 21, 1942, the son of the late Julia and Philip Sewell.
A graduate of Franklin High School in 1959 and Dean College in 1962, Philip later served in the Air Force and was stationed at the embassy in Paris from 1964 to 1968 when he was honorably discharged. Before moving to Newburyport, Mass., 14 years ago, Philip "Chip" owned a bakery in St. Simons Island, Ga., for many years. He was known for his love of music and his own talent as a pianist. He was a wonderful, wild and crazy as well as caring brother who will be sadly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his sisters, Darrah Ostrander of Newburyport and Andy Sewell of Wiscasset, Maine, along with many nieces, nephews and family in this area and California.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be a private ceremony at the Old Hill Cemetery in Newburyport for family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Twomey - LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport, MA 01950.
