Barbara A. Hills


West Newbury — Barbara A. (Johnson) Hills, 95, born March 15, 1918, the daughter of Marion (Chase) Johnson and Charles Marc Johnson of Bradford, Mass., died August 6, in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Hills was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Roger Hills of West Newbury, where they spent their entire married life. Mrs. Hills was also predeceased by her brother, Eldon M. Johnson of Bradford.

Mrs. Hills attended Haverhill High School. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher at the First Church of Christ in Bradford. She had the distinction of being the first treasurer of Haverhill Assembly #90 Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was also active in the Commission for the Blind, Boston, the Blind Guild of Haverhill, and the Squaws of West Newbury. She assisted many a local resident working in the Infant’s Department of the former Mitchell & Company department store for 15 years.

Mrs. Hills’ family includes her daughters, Priscilla Hatt and her husband, Donald, West Newbury, Mass., and Norma Ouellette and her husband, Ronald, of Merrimac, Mass.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She especially loved to cook and enjoyed dining out. The family will especially miss her apple pie and spaghetti sauce that no one has been able to duplicate. She kept in touch with family and friends via telephone – her next favorite activity.

ARRANGEMENTS: By request there will be no calling hours or service. The family will have an intimate graveside service. Arrangements under the direction of Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill.
