AMESBURY — Howard J. "Wadi" Piper, age 91, long time Amesbury resident died Sunday morning, January 22, 2012 at Anna Jaques Hospital with members of his family at his side.
Wadi was born in Piper Meadows, Colorado were his parents Huber and Helen Jones Piper were homesteaders. He moved to Greeley, CO as a young child an graduated from Greely High School in 1937. His college studies at the University of Colorado were interrupted by service in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a pilot. After discharge from the Army and completion of college he moved to Seattle, WA and worked as an engineering supervisor at Boeing.until his retirement in 1982.
The Piper family moved to Amesbury in 1988 and Wadi became active in civic affairs in town and in Sacred Heart Parish. Wadi is survived by his wife of 43 years Rosemary, son Joseph of Seabrook, NH, son Michael of Portland, OR, grandchildren Alder and Madrona of Portland, OR and step-grandson Greg Hanson of Seattle, WA
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 9 Sparhawk St., Amesbury on Saturday January 28, 2012 at 9:30 AM. At the family request there are no calling hours. Donations in Wadi's memory may be made to Holy Family or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the E.V.Jutras & Sons Funeral Home in Amesbury.
