Newburyport, MA — David Robert Murison, 76, of Newburyport, Mass., passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, from complications of melanoma.
Born in Washington, D.C., on July 25, 1937, and raised in Lutherville, Md., Dave lived for many years in Woodstock, Vt., prior to moving to Newburyport in 2007. He was a graduate of Towson High School, the University of Baltimore and received his M.B.A. from American University. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Robert A. Owens destroyer during 1957-1958. He worked for many years in technology and sales before moving to Woodstock, Vt., where he and Susan owned 18 Carrots Natural Foods Market & Deli, and he later served as Director of the Woodstock, Vt., Chamber of Commerce, before retiring.
Dave loved the water. As a child, he participated in the Sea Scouts, and later in life enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay while living in Annapolis, Md. He was also an avid skier who took pride in teaching his sons to ski. He enjoyed drawing and watercolors, and studied violin during his school years at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Md.
Dave was the son of the late Alexander A. Murison, originally from Kilmarnock, Scotland, and the late Amelia L. Rolfe; and brother of the late John A. Murison. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 30 years, Susan C. Wagner; three sons, Jeffrey S. Murison of Raleigh, N.C., Michael S. Murison and partner, Elizabeth McCracken of Basalt, Colo., and David A. Murison of Boston; and new grandson, Jaxon O. Murison of Basalt, Colo. He is also survived by a nephew, John Murison, Jr., of Baltimore, and a previous wife, Marie Fields, of Baltimore.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends and acquaintances wishing to pay their respects will be welcomed by the family at their home at 31 Bromfield St., Newburyport, from Noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014. A private burial will follow at a later date.
