Shirley F. (Thurlow) Fowler


Newburyport, MA — Shirley Fay Fowler, 83, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2013 from natural causes, surrounded by her family.

Born July 17, 1929 in Newburyport to Roger and Ruth (Ruggles) Thurlow, Shirley was a longtime resident of Newburyport, and had previously resided in Seabrook, N.H. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. Shirley will be remembered by her family and friends for her abundance of love and generosity.

She is survived by brothers, Roger (Cabbie) Thurlow of Newbury, and James Thurlow of Seabrook; and sisters, Mary Ann Newcity of Newburyport, and Marion (Herbert) Fish of Danvers. She was predeceased by sisters, Virginia Buck and Judith Snow, both of Salisbury, and her brother, Richard Thurlow of Seabroook.

She is survived by her nine children and their spouses, Sidney Thurlow (Louise Connors) of Seabrook, Nadean (Paul) Preston of Lee, N.H., Wayne Thurlow of Seabrook, Ginger (Wayne) Jordan of Barrington, N.H., Barbara Grasso of Seabrook, Jeff (Charlotte) Thurlow of Newbury, Tom (Candy) Fowler of Newburyport, Sheila (David) Cornn of Weare, N.H., and Cheryl Fowler of Barnstead, N.H.

A loving grandmother, she is also survived by 28 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Shirley leaves a legacy of 86 children and grandchildren, who will miss her dearly. Her sense of humor and ability to make one smile and laugh will long be remembered.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Gingrich and the staff of Country Manor Nursing Home, Newburyport, for the care and love they showed Shirley in the last 14 months of her life. And also to Anna Jaques Hospital Staff for the care she received in her last days.

ARRANGEMENTS: Public calling hours will be held July 12, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport.
