David Winslow Hume


Salisbury, MA — David Winslow Hume, 76, longtime Salisbury resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, January 18, 2014, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Grace A. Hume, with whom he has shared 44 years filled with unforgettable memories.

Born in Exeter, N.H., on February 17, 1937, he was the son of the late Andrew and Gwendolyn (Bennett) Hume. A proud U.S. Marine veteran, he served during the Korean War from March 5, 1954, until his honorable discharge on March 4, 1958, with the rank of Corporal.

David had worked at Lena’s Seafood Restaurant in Salisbury for 30 years, masterfully preparing the fish and clam chowders to the delight of customers who came from near and far. He also worked as a maintenance supervisor at Shaheen’s Amusement Park in Salisbury for approximately 20 years.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Grace of Salisbury; his two daughters, Candice O. Short and husband, Albert G., of Salisbury, and Georgia M. Manovich and husband, David, of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Bobby, Jason, Monice, and AnnMarie; his five great-grandchildren, Cory, David, Sarah R., Sarah A., and Brian; along with his sister, Alice Foley of New Hampshire;

and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. David was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly Hume Mauriello of Salisbury, who passed away on October 31, 2005.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service at the East Parish United Methodist Church of Salisbury, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at Lena’s Seafood, will take place in the springtime and will be announced by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave., Haverhill, MA 01830, as an expression of gratitude for the compassionate care they provided.
