Janice Ann (Kezer) Makos


Salisbury, MA — Janice Ann (Kezer) Makos, age 85, of Salisbury and formerly of Newburyport, passed peacefully, Tuesday evening, May 13, 2014, at Merrimack Valley Health Center, formerly known as Amesbury Village. She was the beloved wife of 63 years of Nicholas Makos.

Born in Melrose, July 1, 1928, she was one of three children of the late Thatcher W. and Maude I. (Bushee) Kezer.

Janice was an avid gardener, spending countless hours to create the beautiful gardens at her home in Newburyport, featured on the Newburyport Garden Tour. Her gardens were a true delight to behold.

As she cared for her gardens, so too did she care for her family, tending to their needs, watching them grow and flourish into the wonderful adults they became and watching the family grow with the arrival of the precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She had tender loving care for them all, along with words of encouragement and praise, and plenty of laughter to lift the spirits. She was also a member of the First Settlers of Newbury.

In addition to her husband, Nicholas of Salisbury; she leaves behind her two daughters, Anna L. Makos and Christine E. Barker and husband, Blake; her three grandchildren, Tracy, Jamie and Jake; her four great-grandchildren. Liana, Nicholas, Juliana and Jaxson, along with her sister, Betsy Knight and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Steven Makos and her brother, Thatcher Kezer.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport, from 2 to 3:45 p.m., immediately followed by funeral services at 4 p.m. Interment will be private for the family.
