Newburyport — Richard K. “Whitey” Iddings, age 88, lifelong Newburyport resident, died Thursday morning at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was the husband of 25 years of the late Gertrude (Morrissey) Iddings.
Born in Newbuyrport, April 30, 1926, he was the son of the late Marian A. and Edith G. (Keith) Iddings.
Immediately after graduating from Newburyport High School, Richard entered the military, proudly serving with the United States Navy during both World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of the V.F. W. Richard was a longtime taxi-cab driver for Newburyport.
He loved to go to the area beaches with his family and friends and was and avid sports fan, especially interested in the Red Sox and football.
He is survived by his daughter, Leah Iddings-Jones of Palm Desert, Calif. and Ann Perkins of Seabrook, N.H.; three granddaughters, six great-grandchildren; his niece, Diane Mazur-Nelson and grandnephew, Jeremy Nelson of Salisbury; a nephew, David Mazur; many cousins, including Jack Welch, and a host of dear friends. He will be greatly missed.
ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service for family and friends will be held at the Old Hill Cemetery, intersection of Pond and Auburn Streets, Newburyport, on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. Donations in his memory may be made to Diane Nelson, 13 Bridge Road, Salisbury, MA 01952.
