Newburyport, MA — Irene E. (Shea) Goodwin, age 92, lifelong Newburyport resident, passed peacefully at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport, on Feb. 20, 2014. Born in Newburyport, Dec. 11, 1921, she was one of seven children of the late Patrick and Lillian (Blanchard) Shea and had attended Newburyport schools.
For many years, Irene worked as an inspector for Towle Manufacturing, as well as Ruth Shoe Company of Newburyport and Sylvania in Ipswich.
Throughout her life, she worked hard, never missing a day of work, so she could take care of her family. She instilled the importance of an education thereby insuring her daughter was the first in the family to receive a college degree.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Sheryl Goodwin of DeLand, Fla.; her two grandchildren, Fawn and Keith Goodwin; and her great-granddaughter, Kaileah Goodwin, who were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her brother and three sisters, Elwood Shea, Enola Fields, Arlette Rogers and Elaine, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and a sister, Frank Shea and June Banks.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service for family and friends will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport, followed by interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. By request of the family, there will be no visiting hours.
