Dudley — Donald L. Kudym Sr., 76, of Maynard Rd., passed away on Thursday, July 10, in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 25 years, Christine (Collins) Kudym; two sons, Donald L. Kudym, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, of Plymouth, and Kenneth M. Kudym of Haverhill; a daughter, Kimberly Kudym and her husband, Joseph Teixeira of Newburyport; a stepdaughter, Pamela J. Antczak and her husband, Robert, of Southbridge; a brother, Melvin Kudym of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Betty Vela of Greeley, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Holly Pike, Nick Paul, Noah Kudym, Dylan Kudym, Zofia Antczak, Izabella Antczak, and Gabriella Antczak; and one great-grandson, Ryan Worcester; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Fred Kudym.
Donald was born in Omaha, Neb., and was the son of Fred and Malvina (Watts) Kudym. He served in the United States Coast Guard, and graduated from Boston University with an bachelor's degree in engineering.
Donald worked as a quality control engineer for General Electric jet engines in Lynn, Mass., for 30 years, before retiring, during which time he also served as a selectman for the Town of Rowley. After retirement, he was involved in a number of entrepreneurial adventures. He created a "Great Kudini" persona and entertained many with his magic tricks. He also enjoyed playing cards, traveling and volunteer work. Recently, he had enjoyed spending time at the Sturbridge Senior Center and with his extended family at New Vision Church in Southbridge. He will always be remembered for his dry wit and kind heart.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours for Donald will be held on Thursday, July 17, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a service in the funeral home to follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
