Donald "Donnie" J. Kingston, 78, born in Salem on March 6, 1933, was the son of the late Mary Zerola. He graduated from Salem High, served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology as a civil engineer. He was employed with Insurance Services Offices in the field of fire protection where he was instrumental in establishing several standards and codes implemented in fire safety and apparatus requirements.
Donnie was typically the "life of the party" wherever he went, and he made friends easily.
Donnie adored time spent with his extended and immediate family. He was an accomplished athlete and enjoyed teaching and coaching sports with his children. His love of sports could only be eclipsed by his love of music. Donnie enjoyed singing and dancing and passed these loves on to his son and daughter. He loved football and hockey and never missed the games. Donnie delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and reading to them.
Donnie is survived by Patricia, his wife of 44 years, his sister Nancy, his children Thomas and Linda, his grandchildren, Madison and Samuel, and several nieces and nephews.
He passed away on January 30, 2012, while vacationing with his wife.
