Anthony Louis Papoulias Sr., 84


Salisbury — Anthony Louis Papoulias, Sr., 84, of Salisbury, passed away on January 23, 2014, after a short illness. He was the son of the late Louis and Helen (Dedes) Papoulias.

Tony was born and raised in Salisbury. He attended the Jacob F. Spalding Elementary School in Salisbury and graduated from Amesbury High School where he was a standout athlete in baseball, basketball and football. He served in the Korean War where he was awarded the bronze star. After receiving a civil engineering degree from Northeastern University, he worked for many years in Boston and Manchester, NH. He was a design engineer on many key municipal projects including the Boston Callahan Tunnel. He finished his career with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Boston.

Tony served for almost two decades as a Salisbury Town Selectman and served several years concurrently as a Town Assessor. He was very proud of the accomplishments made during his tenure as Selectman and the fact that he was always available to take a call or speak with any town resident about their concerns.

Tony was a caring husband to his wife, Gertrude (Rose), a devoted father and father-in-law to his son, Anthony L. Papoulias, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, to his daughter, Diana Papoulias and her husband, David Galat, and to his daughter, Kimberly Papoulias (Pappas). He was loved and adored by his grandchildren, Katrina, Christian, and Anthony. Tony was the youngest of eight children and is survived by his brother, Charles L. Papoulias of Salisbury; his sisters-in-law, Leona Papoulias and Cecile Papoulias, also of Salisbury, and by many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: At the request of the family, services will be private. A spring graveside service will be announced at a later date.
