Portsmouth, NH — Phyllis E. (Packer) McNeil, 84, of Portsmouth, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was born in Springvale, Maine, on October 28, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Leroy and Dorothy (Rhodes) Packer.
Phyllis came to Portsmouth at the age of 12, and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1947. For many years, she was a library aide in the Portsmouth School System.
She was an avid photographer, who would photograph local seacoast scenes, which she then made into greeting cards and sold in local businesses.
Phyllis enjoyed many summers at the family camp at Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, N.H.
Survivors include her children, Thomas McNeil of Portsmouth, David McNeil and wife, Rebecca, of Greenland, Linda Stanwood and husband, Rick, of Portsmouth, Jeannie Lenahan and husband, Robert, of Portsmouth, and Peter McNeil and wife, Anne, of Newburyport, Mass.; sister, Virginia Doble of Gorham, N.H.; brother, Richard Packer of Nassau, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carlton J. McNeil, in 2003; sister, Elaine Anderson; and brother, Robert Packer.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, January 29, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Thursday, January 30, at Immaculate Conception Church at Corpus Christi Parish, 98 Summer Street, Portsmouth.
