Gregory James Rogers

Boiling Springs, SC — Gregory James Rogers, age 60, of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, former longtime resident of Merrimac, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, January 29, 2014, at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, New Hampshire, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Haverhill, March 24, 1953, one of four children of the late Paul C. and Agnes B. (Cubie) Rogers and was a graduate of Pentucket Regional High School, Class of 1971 and New England Institute of Embalming and Sanitary Science in 1975. He was a retired funeral director with the Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Homes of Haverhill, Merrimac, Amesbury and Newburyport.

He was a member and past president of the Merrimac Lions Club and a lifelong member of St. John’s Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Newburyport and Aleppo Temple Shrine of Wilmington.

He had a great appreciation for antiques and enjoyed restoring antique horse-drawn hearses as well as the 1919 motorized Model T Hearse that is still being used by the Rogers Family Funeral Home. He also enjoyed restoring antique furniture, taking things that had been left on the side of the road as “junk” and turning them into treasures that he shared with family and friends. His interest in history covered everything from current to past, but his field of expertise was the Civil War.

In addition to his wife of 32 years, Cymbelina Rogers of Boiling Springs, SC, he is survived by his three children, Kellie J. Fiers and husband, Jim, of Dover, NH, Tara Rogers of Haverhill and Trevor H. Rogers of Boiling Springs, SC; his brother, Paul C. Rogers, Jr. and wife, Rose, of Amesbury; and his two sisters, Cathie J. Boucher and husband, Daniel, of Newbury and Valerie A. Rogers and companion, Jerry Swartz, of West Newbury; his six grandchildren, J.J., Maria, Dylan, Hailey, Aidan and Jimmy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

ARRANGEMENTS: At his request, there will be no visiting hours and services will be private for the family. Donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 88 Preble Street Extension, Portland, ME 04101.
