Donald Sanford Paddock

Rowley, MA — Donald Sanford Paddock, age 87, former longtime resident of West Newbury, died Friday evening, January 31, 2014, at Boston University Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Shirley E. (Skinner) Paddock.

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, July 29, 1926, he was one of two children of the late Calvin and Hazel (Wood) Paddock. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army, proudly serving during the Korean War from September 28, 1950, until his honorable discharge on April 6, 1951.

Don was quite a skillsman holding a variety of jobs over the years. He worked for General Electric in Lynn for many years until his retirement.

He loved his family and so enjoyed being with them and at his favorite vacation spot, Myrtle Beach. Some of his fondest memories were his summers vacationing at Bow Lake with the Smeads family and friends, where he taught many a youngster to water-ski after building a small craft boat.

The Merrimac Senior Center was a vital part of his life in his later years, where he enjoyed the wonderful people and playing pool with friends.

His survivors include three sons, Dennis Smith and wife, Betty, of South Carolina, Jerry Smith and wife, Bette, of Ipswich, and David Smith and wife, Peggy, of Georgetown; his daughter, Karen Tremblay and husband, Albert, of Amesbury; ten grandchildren and their spouses, the late Kelly Smith, Matthew Smith and his wife, Erika, Todd and Tracie Tremblay, Shanna and Tyler Smith, Stacia Verrier (Thibault) and her husband, Dave, Rebecca (Smith) Parsons and her husband, Matt, Zachary Smith, Justin Smith and his wife, Kristina; eight great-grandchildren, Edwin, Beth, Austin, Ryan, Jimmy, Alexandra, Dayne, and Gavin; and his niece, Lynda Myshrall and nephew, Don Myshrall and his wife, Dee. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Myshrall.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, on Monday, February 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. There will be no visiting hours. Burial in Bridge Street Cemetery, West Newbury, will be private for the family at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the American Arthritis Foundation, P.O.
