Sharalyn Gayle (Roberts) Davis

Newburyport, MA — Sharalyn Gayle (Roberts) Davis, 78, of Newburyport, died on Friday, February 7, 2014, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard W. Davis, who died April 15, 2007.

Born in Otsego, Mich., December 10, 1935, she was the daughter of Lois N. (Grinage) Roberts of Newburyport and the late Elmer W. Roberts. Sharalyn graduated from Corunna High School in Michigan. Soon after, her sense of adventure brought her to Alaska where she was employed as a stewardess with Alaskan Airlines. It was here that she met her husband, Richard. They later settled in Newburyport, where they raised their family.

Sharalyn was very active with the Newburyport Pioneer League, and in her younger days, was an avid bowler. She enjoyed many happy days with her family on their boat, and more recently, could always be found cheering her grandchildren on from the sidelines.

Sharalyn had a strong, yet quiet presence that was felt by all those she touched. She was a devoted mother, daughter, and sister, a very proud and loving grandmother, and a loyal and supportive friend.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her two sons, Todd R. Davis and wife, Peggy, and Jeffrey J. Davis and wife, Kristina, all of Newburyport; her daughter, Alyssa A. Larson and husband, Brian, of Jacobus, Pa.; her five grandchildren, who were very special to her, Stephen and Cassaundra Davis, Parker Davis, and Hannah and Cole Larson; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Judy Cronkhite; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Coombes.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service honoring Sharalyn’s life will be held this summer. Donations in her memory may be made to the Jimmy Fund, c/o Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284, or the Newburyport High School World War Memorial Stadium Restoration Fund, 241 High Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
