Alice (Lynch) (Aldonis) Pendergast, 93


Peabody, Lawrence and Newburyport — Alice M. (Lynch) (Aldonis) Pendergast, 93, of Peabody and formerly of Lawrence and Newburyport, died Tuesday afternoon at the Continuing Care of Brooksby Village following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Thomas H. Pendergast, Jr. with whom she shared over 17 years of marriage.

Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Susan (McGrath) Lynch. She was raised and educated in Lawrence and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. She continued on with her education at Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with her RN in 1941.

She was employed at Lawrence General Hospital as assistant supervisor of the operation room and as floor nurse during her early career. She later became private duty nurse, a position she held until her retirement in 1984.

Alice was very active at St. Patrick Parish, where she was a Girl Scout leader and a CCD teacher at St. Patrick’s as well as at Star of Sea Church in Salisbury for 19 years. She was also active with the Seabrook Women’s Club and while at Brooksby Village, she enjoyed dancing and many other activities there and at Peabody Senior Center.

She was married to Matthew Aldonis for 45 years until his death in 1987 and later married Thomas H. Pendergast, Jr. Besides her husband, she is survived by her six children, James Aldonis of Las Vega, Nev., Edward and his wife, Isobel Aldonis, of Salem, N.H., Stephen and his wife, Paula Aldonis, of Methuen, Matthew and his wife, Kim Aldonis, of Las Vegas, Nev., Susan and her husband, Bernard O’Keefe, of Las Vegas and Ann Marie and her husband, Robert Towler, of Hampton, N.H. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and by her extended family of 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 4 brothers, a sister and by her daughter-in-law, Joyce Aldonis, who died on the same day as she.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody and her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Richard’s Church, Forest St., Danvers to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
