Amesbury, MA — Evelyn Donovan,96, longtime Amesbury resident, passed away peacefully last Wednesday at her home with her family at her side. She was born in Newburyport, and was the daughter of the late Adolphus and Rose (Hamel) Mahair. She was the wife of the late Thomas Donovan, who passed away in 1973.
She was proud of being a homemaker and raising her family. She attended Sacred Heart Church for many years, and was known to enjoy playing cards and doing puzzles of all kinds.
Family meant everything to her and she was a very proud and wonderful mother, grandmother, great- and great-great-grandmother, and friend. It was also known that no matter how big of a problem there was, she always had a way to make it seem simple. She was loved by her family and will be sadly missed by them.
Survived by her very large family, she leaves her sons Joseph, Richard, Thomas, and Paul Donovan; her daughters Elizabeth Laliberte, Patricia Bragg, Maureen Gonthier, Barbara Walker, Margaret Berry, Anna Donovan, and Evelyn Plourde; 40 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was mother of the late Robert and William Donovan; sister of the late Eugene Mahair, Alice Perreault, Marie Bowman, and Mary Mosely; and two late grandsons.
