Newburyport — Marjorie F. “Marty” (Knight) Martin, age 87, lifelong Newburyport resident, died early Tuesday morning, August 6, 2013, at Anna Jaques Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Henry “Cookie” Martin.
Born in Newburyport, October 12, 1925, daughter of the late Lawrence and Marion (Flanders) Knight, she was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1943.
For thirty-nine years Marty was a waitress at Labadini’s Restaurant, serving her customers with a warm smile and friendly conversation.
Marty spent her entire life doing for, and helping others. When there was a need, she was always there. Most important to Marty was her family.
She is predeceased by her husband, Cookie; oldest son, Ronald Martin; middle son, Lawrence Martin; youngest son, Paul Martin and twin to surviving son, Peter Martin and wife, Ezhra, of East Kingston, N.H. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Heidi Klingebiel, W. Scott Martin of Merrimac; Lauren Thistlewood, Cassie Martin and Josh Martin, all of Haverhill; great-granddaughter, Sarah Thistlewood; daughters-in-law, Diane Martin and Margaret Larzelere; along with several nieces and nephews.
A native of Newburyport, Mary spent her summers at the family beach house at the Knobles at Plum Island. In later years, she and her husband enjoyed vacationing in the White Mountains.
Marty’s hobbies included gardening, knitting, crocheting, along with many other crafts. She enjoyed swimming, yard sales, dancing, and a good cocktail. She will be truly missed by those who knew her.
ARRANGEMENTS: A period of visitation will be held at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport, Monday, August 12, 2013, from 10 to 11 a.m., immediately followed by memorial services with interment in Belleville Cemetery.
