Stephen R. Plante

Amesbury, MA — Stephen Robert Plante, 54, of Amesbury, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 10, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Bethany R. (Fowler) Plante.

Born in Dorchester, Mass., on September 17, 1958, he was the son of Rose (Connaughton) Plant of Mansfield and the late Robert E. Plant. After graduating from high school, Stephen went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, pursuing a lifelong career as a claims consultant, working for over 30 years at the John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston.

Having been a resident of Amesbury for nearly 20 years, Stephen and his family settled in an old Victorian home, and thanks to his love of woodworking, took on the arduous, yet rewarding, task of refurbishing the home one room at a time.

In addition to his wife and his mother, Stephen is survived by two sons, Andrew P. Plante and wife, Rafelina, and Jonathan Plante; his daughter, Meredith Plante, all of Amesbury; three brothers, Lawrence E. Plant and wife, Carolyn, of Rockland, Edward Plant and wife, Susan, of Norton, and Richard Plant and wife, Jeanne, of Apex, N.C.; his sister, Carolyn Burnham and husband, Philip, of Mansfield; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He will be sadly missed by them all.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held at the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, on Thursday, August 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, at 11 a.m., at All Saints’ Anglican Church, 62 Friend Street, Amesbury, followed by interment in Union Cemetery, Amesbury. Donations in his memory may be made to the Stephen Plante Memorial Fund, c/o Anne Gagne, Provident Bank, 1 Haverhill Road, Amesbury, MA 01913. They will be distributed to ministries in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, where Stephen spent many hours volunteering his time and gifts on mission trips with his church and family.
