Mary Alice Orme, age 87, passed away on Sunday evening, March 25, 2012, at the Amesbury Village Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for many years.
Born on September 14, 1924, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Alice was the eldest daughter of Vernon and Sadie (Newman) Anderson.
Alice married Jack Orme, a British sailor, on June 16, 1944. They were married 64 years, and together they had six children. Alice and Jack had a varied life with many transitions following Jack’s career. They lived in England, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Alice was a homemaker and became involved with Cub Scouts and 4-H for her children and was also an avid reader. In later years, she enjoyed working in school systems as a teacher’s aide. Alice was also a member of the Newburyport YWCA and joined their swimming classes in her senior years. She and Jack often traveled to their beloved England and the Caribbean.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, in 2008, her daughter, Christine Orme, in 2009, her sister, Betty Reid and her brother, Paul Anderson.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Barbara and Jim Coccia of Queensbury, NY; Vernon and Priscill Orme of Boynton Beach, FL; Peter and Lynn Orme of Waterford, NY; Julia and Rick Strumpfler of North Andover, and Steven and Kim Orme of Winchendon, MA; along with thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Nean Harris and Ruth Chadwick, both of New Jersey, along with several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., immediately followed by funeral services at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Interment will be private for the family.
