Amesbury — Richard L. Newton, 73, of Amesbury passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Beth Israel – Deaconess Hospital in Boston. He was born in Lynn and was the son of the late Fred and Dorothy (Mader) Newton.
Dick was raised in Swampscott, and was a graduate of Tilton Prep School in Tilton, N.H., where he was a member of the Alumni Council. He was also a graduate of Nichols College in Dudley. He retired from Nike Corporation in Saco, Maine where he worked as the Director of Personnel. He was a former police officer in Newbury and for the past five years had worked for Riverfront Marine in Salisbury.
He loved boating and water skiing with this family and friends. He was also very involved in politics and was the Chairman of the Republican Party in Amesbury.
Dick was a selfless man with a huge heart who was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was much loved by family and friends and our memories of his many acts of kindness and of his spirit shall remain with us always.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Mary (Kent) Newton of Amesbury; his children, Sarah Scolforo of Great Barrington, Richard Newton and his wife, Irene of East Chatham, N.Y., Amanda DelMonte and her husband, Wayne of Harwinton, Conn., Cynthia Miller and her husband, William of Exeter, N.H., Robert “Scott” Everette of Amesbury and Steven Everette of Barrington, N.H.; and his siblings, James Newton and Elizabeth Tulley. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
