Callie Elizabeth McLaughlin Plante, 20

Newburyport, MA — Callie Elizabeth McLaughlin Plante passed away Nov. 23, 2012. She was the light of so many people's lives; bringing love, warmth and joy to all she knew.

Callie was raised in Newburyport, attending the Newburyport schools and Northern Essex Community College. She was a gymnast and cheerleader and particularly enjoyed cheering with all of her friends at East Elite. She was a voracious reader and could often be found on the porch, basking in the sun, immersed in a good book. She was a beautiful writer, as well, and it was her goal to be a high school English teacher. She was so intelligent and insightful, a true critical thinker, who would have brought so much to her students.

Callie was a nurturing soul who loved to spend time with her younger sisters, cousins, nieces and nephew, and her friends' children. One of the joys of her childhood was spending time at her grandmother's home on Sebago Lake with her family. Her playfulness engaged every child as soon as she walked into a room and her patience and kindness was inexhaustible. She had a special little friend, Maya, who brought so much happiness to her life.

Callie was a free spirit who loved to have fun. She had so many wonderful friends; an amazing number that lasted throughout her lifetime, and she often became part of their families. She was blessed to have so many friends' parents who loved her like their own. These friendships meant so much to her. She was one who sincerely listened and was very proud of the fact that so many of her friends came to her for help and understanding.

It was her love of her family that defined who she was. She was a sweet, caring young woman who gave so much love. She was an amazing sister. From the moments that Molly and Fiona were born, she became their second mother. It was a rare occurrance to find her without one of "her mini-me's". She was a teacher, friend, and source of constant support. She shared her love of reading with her sisters and at bedtime would snuggle her babies and read to them until they were all asleep. Callie and her brother Michael shared a special bond, becoming close friends as they became adults and were always there for each other. Callie was the most special daughter anyone could ask for. She was the light of her parents' lives: bringing joy, humor, and so much love.

She will be dearly missed by her parents: Gary Plante and Christine McLaughlin, her sisters and brothers: Molly and Fiona Plante, Kelly Bresnahan, Michael Welch, and Dennis Plante, her grandmothers: Frances Plante and Susan Dodge, as well as her uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephew.
