Reno, Nev. — Cheryl A. (Fraser) Palko, 60, longtime resident of Reno, Nev., passed away unexpectedly at home Tuesday morning, December 4. Born in Amesbury, June 9, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Lester W. and B. Jean Fraser.
Cheryl graduated Amesbury High School in 1970 and was a 1974 graduate of Colby College. She served eight years in the US Army as a specialist in six languages eventually earning her commission and rank of Major. She later continued her military service in the Army National Guard while dedicating her second career to the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller, retiring after 22 years. Even in retirement she returned to work part time to help train a new generation of air traffic controllers.
Cheryl loved spending time and vacationing with family and often enjoyed visits to Cancun, Mexico. She had a love of animals, and her children, as she called them, currently included two horses, five dogs and two cats.
Cheryl is survived by her long time partner, Frank W. Wrede; sisters, Karen J. Fraser of Gloucester and Sandra Licciardo and her husband, Anthony of Salisbury; brother, Alan E. Fraser of Tampa, Fla.; nephew, Jayson W. Licciardo and his wife, Kerri of Plymouth; niece, Angela M. Gulino and her husband, Kyle of Beverly; great-niece, Kenzie Gulino; uncle, Moses E. Wright III and his wife, Judy of New Hampshire and Florida; aunt, Marise L. Fraser of New Hampshire, and several cousins in the New England area.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held on December 22, 2012, at 10 a.m. at O'Brien-Rogers & Crosby, 600 West Second Street, Reno, NV, and in Salisbury, at a later date.
