Daniel G. Barrett, 82

ROWLEY, MA — Daniel G. Barrett, 82, a lifelong resident of Rowley, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013, with his family by his side. He was the husband of C. Irma (Wilson) Barrett of Rowley, with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Dan was born in Rowley on November 4, 1930, to John W. and Helen G. (Chapman) Barrett. He graduated from Newburyport High School, Class of 1948, and later graduated from Bentley with a degree in finance. Dan served in the Army National Guard from 1949-1951, and then in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1957. Appointed by President John F. Kennedy, he became Postmaster in Rowley, where he served the community for 32 years.

Dan was a lifetime communicant at St. Mary's Parish in Rowley. He was a former member of the Rowley Finance Committee and a lifetime member of the Rowley Fire Department.

Among his pastimes, he loved gardening and working in his yard, and also following local high school sports, and was an avid Boston sports fan. He especially loved celebrating family events.

In addition to his wife, Irma, he is survived by their two sons, John Barrett of Danvers and fiancee, Robin Kellow, and Joseph Barrett of Epping, N.H., and fiancee, Sharon St. Onge; three daughters, Kathryn and husband, Myles Haley of Newbury, Ellen Perley and former son-in-law, Daniel Perley, both of Rowley, and Barbara Barrett of Newburyport; two sisters, Anne DeSerres of Somersworth, N.H., and Helen Adams of New Gretna, N.J.; seven cherished grandchildren, Danielle and Nicole Perley, CPL Cebastian, McKenzie and Mercedes Barrett, Daniel Barrett, Matthew Haley; a great-grandson, Maxx Daniel Barrett; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Zartarian, formerly of Newburyport.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m., in St. Mary's Parish Church, Main Street, Rowley, on Wednesday, August 14. Burial will follow in the Main Street Cemetery, Rowley. A period of visitation will be held at the F.S. Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent Street, Rowley, on Tuesday, August 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Mary's Parish Fund, or St. Mary's Rev.
