Richard Clayton Bursaw, 86


Stuart, FL — Richard C. Bursaw, 86, passed away March 20, 2014, in Stuart, FL. Dick was born in Brockton, MA, resided in Newbury, MA for 22 years and had been a resident of Hobe Sound, FL for the past 22 years.

Dick was a WWII Navy Veteran and proudly served his country in the Pacific theater on the hospital ship "Samaritan." Dick was an avid fisherman and a licensed Captain who loved fishing the waters off of Newburyport and Cape Cod, MA as well as the Treasure Coast.

Dick was a Mason affiliated with St. John's Lodge, Newbury, MA and was a life member of the Hall-Bryan VFW in Hobe Sound.

He was also a kidney donor.

A 50 year veteran of the footwear industry, Dick served in executive positions at numerous shoe companies including Stride Rite, Bostonian, Timberland and retired in 1992 as Senior Global Technical Director for Nike, Inc.

He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn Bursaw of Salisbury, MA and his children, Susan and her husband, Paul Swanson, Richard C. Bursaw Jr. and his wife, Norma, Amy and her husband, Bruce Merluzzi; his grandchildren, Corrine and Daniel Merluzzi. He was preceded in death by his children, Scott Bursaw and Ann Bursaw.

Survivors also include his soul mate of 29 years, Marlene Stone and her daughter, Sage Jiggins and grandchildren, Kate and Nathan Jiggins.
