Daniel J. Fonseca, 65, of Lake Road, Wilton, died Sunday morning at the Togus VA Medical Center.
He was born in Newburyport, MA, August 13, 1946, a son of Joseph and Helen Page Brown. On Feb. 25, 1968, he entered the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam Conflict where he received the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation. He retired from the Marine Corps as a result of permanent disability due to wounds received in action.
He moved to Wilton in 1988, where he enjoyed his boat and being on the lake. He loved fishing, camping, spending time with his family, and following New England sports teams. He was a member of the Calvary Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Madore) Fonseca of Wilton; his children, Rhonda Fonseca and her companion, Jeff Grove of Erie, PA; Wendi Smith and her husband, Matthew of Farmington; and Daniel Fonseca Jr. and his companion, Janine Solheim of Amesbury, MA; two adopted children, Jennifer Fonseca of Salisbury, MA and Michael Fonseca of Brunswick; a stepson, Phillip Smith and his wife, Juline of Nantucket, MA; siblings, Diana Fonseca Sansoucie and her husband, Norman of East Kingston, NH, Linda Gouthier and her husband, Grover of Livermore Falls; Andrew P. Brown, Jr. and his wife, Mary Ellen of Plaistow, NH; Darlene Woodward and her husband, Don of Danville, NH and Kathy Kraus and her husband, Tim of NC; six grandchildren: Danielle Grove, Leah Grove, Timothy Smith, Jayden Fonseca, Sophia Solheim and Michael Riddick Fonseca; a step-granddaughter, Jada-Lee Smith; his former wives, Suzanne Eaton and Ellen B. Guild, both of Newburyport, MA; He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews whom he greatly adored. He was predeceased by a former wife, Linda L. Lattime Fonseca.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from the Calvary Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Trask officiating, followed by refreshments in the church undercroft. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High Street, Wilton, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the spring at the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Caribou.
